The Solar Cooker Project

Organization:
Jewish World Watch
Grant Amount:
$7,500

The Solar Cooker Project aids Darfuri women and girls and preserves the environment. Jewish World Watch provides solar cookers capable of boiling water and cooking food to refugees fleeing persecution and genocide in the Sudan. Instead of walking miles every day away from their temporary homes to collect scarce firewood, women can use solar energy to provide for their families. This chore exposed them to violent attacks common away from the camps and forced girls out of school. Furthermore, JWW trains women to assemble the cookers, providing employment.
